How The Ministry Began

In 1992, the Lord spoke to Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Phillips to start a Bible Study which began with about fifteen people, in one of the saint's homes.  The attendance grew rapidly. We then moved to the John O. Wilson Community Center in Hamilton, New Jersey. With a tremendous burden for souls, Pastor Phillips began to train the people for Street Evangelism - passing out literature and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. At this time, we were "Nothing But The Word Outreach Ministries". As time went on, Pastor saw the need to expand the Bible Study and to begin Evangelistic Services. We moved temporarily to a church in Trenton, New Jersey. After two years of Bible Study, the Lord spoke to Pastor, saying, "Get a building for the people - this is a Church!" She continued to fast and pray for direction until the Lord spoke again and said, "you will know the building when you see it."

In 1994, the Lord directed Pastor Phillips to a building that she had never seen. When she drove in the lot at 2071 Route 130, the Lord said, "This is the building - feed and lead my sheep."  There was great opposition but through much prayer, God gave us favor and we became Nothing But The Word Deliverance Church, Incorporated. We are under the "covering" and fellowship of the Deliverance Evangelistic Church Association in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our first service was held on Sunday, April 23, 1995.

When the Lord called Pastor Phillips to be the Under-Shepherd of this Church, He said that He would do a quick work and send in souls from the East, West, North and South and He is doing just that as we continue to obey and follow His leading.  And this is only the beginning of the Vision which is yet to be fulfilled. In such a short time we have accomplished so much and we have exceeded our space to work ministry - "Praise the Lord."

Pastor Phillips understands that we cannot fulfill ministry without touching the hearts and lives of the people. During the early ministry of Jesus Christ, He was always in the midst of the people reaching out to the lost, suffering and dying with love and compassion. Today, many in the church have lost their vision of focusing on the needs of the people/community. Instead, many want to just have church and be entertained, but there is work to be done and this work exceeds the four walls of the church (building) if we are going to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19, 20).

Pastor Phillips heart's desire is to reach out to those who are lost, suffering, hopeless, discouraged, depressed and disappointed by meeting their needs holistically (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and socially) through the teaching and preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, the AIDS epidemic, illicit sex, and sexual perversion is running rampant in this generation. Of a truth - "People need the Lord."
